Mile posts: Ankeny store first to offer running gait analysis in Des Moines area
Bill Lorenz is taking the guesswork out of fitting shoes on runners and walkers.
And the self-described “Guru of Shoe” is doing it by utilizing what he calls the “21st Century way to sell shoes.”
Lorenz, pictured, is the new running shoe specialist at Kyle’s Bikes in Ankeny. Kyle’s Bikes this spring became the first Des Moines-area specialty running store to offer a gait analysis system that provides digital video of the customer on a treadmill.
Kyle’s offers the Dartfish Gait Analysis, which is the same technology NBC used to compare the lines of downhill skiers during the recent Vancouver Olympics. The analysis is free for customers.
“People want to see results,” Lorenz told me during a recent visit to Kyle’s Bikes to try out the Dartfish system, which is pictured. “This just enhances what I knew. It’s such a powerful transition we can make for people.”
